Landscaping as a home improvement project has a recovery value of 100-200% if it is well done and harmonizes with the nearby surrounding. This compares to a Kitchen overhead of 75-125% or a Bathroom redesign of 80-120%.

Organic Lawn Care Programs
| 100% Organic Program |
| Early Spring |
Organic Fertilizer An organic fertilizer, rich in organic matter is applied, usually Corn Gluten Meal due to its high nitrogen and protein content and possible weed suppression qualities. We use brands such as Espoma™ or Nutrients Plus™. Five to ten pounds of organic matter per 1,000 square feet is our target for this application.
|
| Spring and/or Fall |
Pelletized limestone is applied to "sweeten" the soil by
enhancing ph levels. Lime is crucial in Maine, where heavy rainfall and acidic soils are present. |
| Late Spring (optional) |
Organic Fertilizer
This optional application is for clients who wish to maximize the amount of organic matter applied to their lawn to hasten the transition from chemical to organic. It is beneficial to include this application to further target the 10-15 lbs of organic matter per 1,000 square feet of lawn per year. Product will be contain high protein and may vary in content to compliment the first application.
|
| Summer |
If insects are present we will attempt to use organic solution to maintain the integrity of the organic program. If insect infestation is high, chemical alternatives may need to be explored with client's permission |
| Fall |
Organic Fertilizer
This application is applied to help the grass plant recover from summer stresses and to prepare for active
growth during the fall. We may use a "high protein" product such as cracked corn or alfalfa pellets OR stick with Corn Gluten Meal for its high nitrogen and possible weed suppression qualities. This application is intended to fulfill the target of 10-15 lbs of organic matter per 1,000 square feet. |
| Spring or Fall |
Aeration
Aeration is a VITAL part of any serious lawn care program, especially an organic one. The organic approach relies on microbial and biological activity (LIFE!) to improve the health of your soil, lawn and landscape. Two key ingredients are air and water. Aeration is the means to introduce MORE of these elements into your soil. Salts, chemical fertilizers, rain and traffic all contribute to compaction of the soil which inhibits air and water movement. Aeration counters these effects and often produces VISIBLE resutls in and of itself. |
| Throughout The Season |
Mechanical and Cultural Practices
There are a number of things that we can do to further promote the health of your lawn and landscape. In addition to aeration, mowing as high as possible to promote longer and sturdier root growth and to shade and choke out weeds. Leaving grass clippings on the lawn to add a small amount of extra nitrogen. Choosing weed, drought and insect resistent grasses for reseeding when necessary and choosing native landscape plants with an eye toward choices that attract beneficial or preditor insects to help keep down undesirable insect populations. |
| Organic Based with Some Chemical |

maintain the healthy green color. Broadleaf weed control is included if needed or requested to remove competition from spring germinating weeds.
|
